Tata Mumbai Marathon 2026 Draws Record Crowds and Global Stars

Tata Mumbai Marathon 2026 sees record participation with international and celebrity runners.

The 21st edition of the Tata Mumbai Marathon kicked off on Sunday from the historic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), drawing runners from across India and abroad. The event, themed ‘Har Dil Mumbai’, celebrated fitness, inclusivity, and community spirit, marking one of the city’s largest sporting gatherings.

This year’s marathon witnessed participation from over 69,000 runners, including more than 65,400 on-ground participants and around 3,700 virtual runners worldwide. The full 42 km marathon saw foreign athletes dominate, while the half marathon, senior citizens’ run, wheelchair race, and the ever-popular Dream Run attracted enthusiastic responses from Mumbaikars.

Recognised as a World Athletics Gold Label Race, the 2026 edition offered a total prize pool of USD 389,524, reinforcing its status as Asia’s largest marathon. Several high-profile celebrities participated, including Bollywood actor Aamir Khan and director-producer Kiran Rao. Canadian sprint star Andre De Grasse also joined the race, adding an international flair.

Political leaders joined the excitement too, with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah seen running alongside his colleagues. Abdullah, attempting the Procam Slam, registered early at the Get Active Expo and completed the marathon’s 21 km segment, demonstrating both enthusiasm and commitment to fitness.

For the first time, the marathon route included Mumbai’s Coastal Road, reducing the winding terrain of South Mumbai and providing runners a smoother, faster track. Early morning weather was cool and conducive for running, raising hopes of record-breaking timing for elite participants.

A total of 14,059 runners registered for the full marathon, reflecting increasing interest and dedication among participants. Training throughout the year ensured strong performances, making the 2026 Tata Mumbai Marathon a record-setting, star-studded event that combined athletic excellence with the city’s vibrant energy.
