Tamil Nadu CM Vijay To Visit London On First Official Overseas Trip

CM Vijay begins first overseas official visit to London.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will leave for London on Thursday night on his first official overseas visit since the TVK government assumed office, with the trip focused on attracting fresh industrial investment to the state. Vijay is scheduled to depart from Chennai at 10 p.m. and travel to London via Dubai.

The Chief Minister will remain in the United Kingdom until September 16 and is expected to return to Chennai at 8 a.m. on September 17, again travelling through Dubai. A high-level delegation led by Vijay will hold meetings with investors and representatives of major companies during the visit as the government seeks to strengthen Tamil Nadu’s position as a destination for new business and industrial projects.

Vijay is also scheduled to participate in an investors’ conference in London, where he is expected to present Tamil Nadu as a preferred destination for manufacturing, technology and other emerging industries. Senior state officials have already travelled to the British capital to make arrangements for the programme. Public Works Minister Aadhav Arjuna has reached London, while Industries Minister Keerthana is expected to join the delegation.

The overseas visit comes shortly after the conclusion of the Tamil Nadu Assembly’s Budget session and forms part of the government’s broader investment strategy. The TVK government has set a target of expanding the state’s economy to $1.5 trillion by 2036, with domestic and international investments identified as a key component of that plan. Keerthana had recently visited South Korea, where she held discussions with companies, including an automobile manufacturer, and investment agreements were subsequently signed, according to the government.

The state also hosted a global investors’ meeting in Chennai on August 13, during which memoranda of understanding were signed with multiple companies. The government has claimed that during its first 110 days in office, it signed agreements with 104 companies involving proposed investments of Rs 1,02,514 crore and the potential creation of 1,21,788 jobs.

Tamil Nadu’s renewed investment outreach comes as it competes with Andhra Pradesh and other states for major industrial projects. The London programme is expected to focus on strengthening international business ties and converting investor interest into firm commitments. The government is also expected to highlight Tamil Nadu’s infrastructure, skilled workforce and established industrial ecosystem while seeking a larger share of global investment.
