Swiggy Discontinues Unprofitable Snacc 10-minute Delivery

Swiggy discontinues Snacc due to profitability concerns and absorbs staff.

Food delivery platform Swiggy has discontinued its 10-minute delivery service ‘Snacc’ due to lack of profitability in the segment, according to sources familiar with the development. The move marks a strategic retreat from the ultra-fast delivery model that had briefly gained traction within India’s rapidly evolving quick-commerce landscape.

Sources indicated that the shutdown will not result in layoffs, as all employees associated with the Snacc vertical are being absorbed into other roles within the company. Swiggy had launched the standalone Snacc app in January 2025 as part of its broader push into rapid food delivery. The service was operational in two cities, though the company has not publicly specified the locations where the pilot was running.

Company representatives had not issued an official response at the time of publication. The decision comes amid growing industry-wide questions about the long-term sustainability of aggressive delivery timelines, particularly the operational costs involved in maintaining ultra-fast fulfilment networks.

The development also coincides with increasing regulatory and labour scrutiny of quick-commerce practices. In recent weeks, the Centre had advised platforms to reconsider strict 10-minute delivery commitments, citing safety concerns for gig workers. The Gig and Platform Service Workers Union had earlier staged a nationwide strike on December 31, pressing for stronger protections, improved working conditions and greater dignity for platform-based delivery personnel.

Industry observers note that while ultra-fast delivery promises can help attract and retain customers in a highly competitive market, they often place significant physical and time pressure on delivery partners. Companies are now increasingly balancing speed with sustainability, unit economics and worker safety as the quick-commerce sector matures in India.
