Rickshaw Bomb Blast In Pakistan Bazaar Leaves 9 Dead, Dozens Injured
Rickshaw bomb blast in Pakistan bazaar kills nine and injures over two dozen.
At least nine people were killed and more than two dozen others injured after a bomb planted on a rickshaw exploded in a crowded bazaar in northwestern Pakistan on Tuesday, marking the latest in a series of deadly attacks in the region near the Afghanistan border. The explosion occurred in a busy marketplace in Lakki Marwat district, where civilians had gathered for daily commerce. According to local police chief Azmat Ullah, the improvised explosive device had been attached to a rickshaw and detonated in the densely populated area, causing widespread panic and heavy casualties.
Among those killed were two traffic police personnel and a woman, officials confirmed, while the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment. Several of the wounded are reported to be in critical condition, and authorities have warned that the death toll could rise further. No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. However, suspicion is expected to fall on the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an outlawed militant organisation that operates separately from but is ideologically aligned with the Afghan Taliban. The group has been behind several recent attacks targeting security forces and civilians in the region.
The bombing comes just days after another major incident in the nearby Bannu district, where 15 police officers were killed in a suicide bombing followed by a gun attack on a security post. That assault prompted Pakistan’s government to summon a senior Afghan diplomat to lodge a formal protest over cross-border militancy concerns.Pakistani authorities have repeatedly accused Afghanistan’s Taliban-led government of providing safe havens to TTP militants, allegations that Kabul has consistently denied. Afghan officials maintain that their territory is not being used to launch attacks against neighbouring countries.

The latest violence highlights a broader deterioration in security conditions in Pakistan’s northwest regions, where militant activity has surged in recent years. Analysts say the return of the Afghan Taliban to power in 2021 has emboldened insurgent groups operating along the porous border, contributing to increased instability.Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan remain high despite intermittent diplomatic efforts, including China-mediated talks held earlier this year. However, sporadic cross-border clashes and continued militant attacks have undermined progress toward long-term stability in the region.
