Republic Day 2026: India Celebrates 77 Years of the Constitution with Grand Parade and Global Presence
India marks its 77th Republic Day with a grand parade, global guests, and renewed focus on constitutional values.
India is immersed in patriotic fervor today as the nation marks its 77th Republic Day on January 26, 2026. This historic occasion commemorates the adoption of the Indian Constitution on January 26, 1950, which transformed the country into a sovereign democratic republic, empowering its citizens with justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm greetings to the nation, describing Republic Day as a profound symbol of India's honor, pride, and glory. In his message, he stated: "May this grand national festival, a symbol of India's honour, pride, and glory, infuse new energy and enthusiasm into your lives." He further expressed hope that it strengthens the resolve for a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).
The centerpiece of the celebrations is the magnificent Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path in New Delhi, presided over by President Droupadi Murmu. The event kicked off with PM Modi paying homage to fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial around 10:30 AM, followed by joining dignitaries on the saluting dais.

This year's chief guests are Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, symbolizing strengthened India-EU ties.
Nationwide, the spirit of Republic Day resonates through diverse celebrations: flag unfurlings in snow-covered Sikkim at 16,000 feet, by state leaders in Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan, and even by the Indian diaspora in Singapore. Iconic landmarks like Chennai Airport and the Anji Khad Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir are illuminated in tricolour lights.
Security remains on high alert across the capital, with over 30,000 Delhi Police personnel deployed alongside 3,000 CCTV cameras. Leaders from across the political spectrum, including UP CM Yogi Adityanath, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and international figures like US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, have shared messages emphasizing constitutional values, freedom fighters' legacy, and global partnerships.
As India looks ahead, Republic Day 2026 serves as a powerful reminder of the nation's journey—from adopting the world's longest written constitution to pursuing ambitious goals of development, unity, and global leadership. Jai Hind!
