Mumbai-based tailor Madhav Agasti was conferred the prestigious Bharat Gaurav Award on July 3, 2025, at the British Parliament in London, recognizing his five-decade-long contribution to Indian fashion. The award, presented by Sanskriti Yuva Sanstha, honors individuals of Indian origin for outstanding achievements that elevate India’s global standing. Agasti, known for crafting garments for former Presidents Pranab Mukherjee and Ram Nath Kovind, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and other Maharashtra leaders, expressed gratitude, stating, “Coming from a humble background with no formal education in fashion, this award is a tribute to Indian craftsmanship and artisans who keep our traditions alive.”
Agasti’s notable Bollywood contributions include designing the iconic Mogambo costume for Mr. India (1987) and curating looks for Andaz Apna Apna (1994). His brand has blended traditional techniques with modern designs, adapting to evolving trends while preserving authenticity.
