Relief and Joy for Polavaram Oustees as CM Naidu Distributes Rs 226 Crore

On the eve of Ugadi, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu distributed cheques totaling Rs 226 crore to families displaced by the Polavaram Project, marking the third instalment of the state’s rehabilitation package. The event, held at the project’s camp office, brought visible relief and joy to evacuees who had sacrificed their homes and lands for the ambitious irrigation initiative.
Addressing the gathering, Naidu praised the sacrifices of displaced families, stating that their contributions would remain etched in the hearts of the people. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparent rehabilitation, timely compensation, and ensuring that every family lives with dignity. “The Polavaram Project is the lifeline of Andhra Pradesh, and it is being realised because of the sacrifices of evacuees,” he said.
The Chief Minister highlighted that over the past 21 months, the government has disbursed Rs 1,943 crore to 26,149 displaced persons in three phases: Rs 800 crore during Sankranti 2025, Rs 916 crore during Diwali 2025, and Rs 226 crore now for Ugadi 2026. Rehabilitation colonies are under construction, with 26 completed and 49 in progress, aiming to resettle more than 38,000 families by 2027.

Each displaced family is being provided Rs 3.5 lakh for house construction, while the land allotment amount has been increased to Rs 2 lakh. Naidu addressed delays in the Polavaram Project, attributing them to negligence by previous administrations, and announced that the diaphragm wall reconstruction, costing Rs 1,000 crore, would be completed within a week.
The Chief Minister reiterated his commitment to completing the Polavaram Project by mid-2027, adding that an additional Rs 5,000 crore would be required to finish the work. He assured evacuees that rehabilitation and resettlement would remain a priority before project completion.
Displaced families expressed gratitude for the funds, noting that the support has improved their financial stability. Many shared emotional testimonies, highlighting their relief that the government has formally acknowledged their sacrifices. Water Resources Minister Nimmala Rama Naidu, Chief Secretary G. Sai Prasad, and R&R officials were present at the ceremony.
