Rekha Gupta Celebrates Raksha Bandhan With Schoolchildren In Delhi

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday celebrated Raksha Bandhan with schoolchildren from different parts of the national capital, with several girls tying Rakhis on her wrist during the festivities. Gupta shared details of the celebration on social media, describing the interaction with the children as a joyful experience. She also extended her wishes to the girls and expressed hope that they would have opportunities to pursue their dreams.

The Chief Minister said the children tied several Rakhis, shared sweets and spent time interacting with her during the celebration. Gupta described the affection shown by the girls as a blessing and wished for their continued happiness and safety. She also expressed the hope that Delhi would remain a secure city offering opportunities for children to build their futures.

The Raksha Bandhan celebration came a day after Gupta launched the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana, a welfare scheme under which eligible women will receive monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,500 through Direct Benefit Transfer. The Chief Minister distributed approval and verification letters to thousands of women beneficiaries and formally initiated the process for transferring the assistance to their bank accounts.

Gupta said the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana had reached women across the national capital and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others associated with the initiative. According to the Chief Minister, more than nine lakh women had registered for the scheme since its launch on August 1. She said approval and verification certificates were formally handed over to the first 2,500 beneficiaries who are set to receive the monthly assistance.

The scheme has emerged as one of the Delhi government's major welfare initiatives, with the administration focusing on providing direct financial assistance to eligible women. The Direct Benefit Transfer mechanism is intended to transfer the monthly amount directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts. The government has been undertaking the verification process to identify beneficiaries eligible for the assistance under the scheme.

Gupta’s Raksha Bandhan programme combined the festival celebrations with an interaction involving schoolchildren from across Delhi. While the event focused on the traditional exchange of Rakhis and festive greetings, the Chief Minister also used the occasion to reiterate her message of safety, opportunity and support for children and women in the capital.
