Rajnath Singh Highlights Operation Sindoor as Model of Joint Military Response

Rajnath Singh highlights Operation Sindoor as India’s new military ethos.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said that Operation Sindoor has marked a defining shift in India’s military thinking and demonstrated a new defence ethos centred on speed, precision and joint force capability. Speaking at the Joint Commanders’ Conference, he described the operation as a “short-duration, deep-penetration, high-intensity and high-impact” mission that reflected the coordinated strength of India’s armed forces.

Operation Sindoor, launched in the early hours of May 7, 2025, was India’s response to the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. The operation triggered four days of intense military exchanges between India and Pakistan involving fighter jets, missiles, drones and artillery strikes. According to defence officials, the escalation continued until both sides reached an understanding on ceasing military action on May 10.

Singh said the operation demonstrated India’s ability to respond swiftly and decisively to security threats, calling it a reflection of growing integration between the Army, Navy and Air Force. He stressed that future conflicts would not be limited to conventional battlefields but would extend across cyber, space, electromagnetic and cognitive domains, requiring advanced preparedness and adaptability.

The Defence Minister urged senior military commanders to draw lessons from Operation Sindoor and ongoing global conflicts to strengthen future readiness. He highlighted the importance of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, data analytics and secure communication networks. Singh said future warfare would increasingly depend on technological superiority, information dominance and inter-service coordination rather than conventional firepower alone.

He also emphasised the need for “jointness” among the armed forces, stating that integrated operations would be central to India’s defence strategy going forward. During the conference, he released a joint doctrine on integrated communication architecture aimed at improving interoperability and coordination across military services. Officials said this framework is intended to enhance clarity and efficiency in multi-domain operations.

The ministry also noted that several new defence procurements have been initiated following the operation, including air defence systems, fighter jets, unmanned platforms and missile systems to strengthen operational capability. Senior military leadership, including the Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force, participated in the conference. Officials reiterated that Operation Sindoor has reinforced India’s approach of decisive and calibrated military response in the face of terrorism, while underscoring a shift towards technology-driven and integrated defence preparedness.
