Rahul Gandhi To Address Rally And Meet Ex-Servicemen In Uttarakhand

Rahul Gandhi begins Uttarakhand visit, to meet ex-servicemen and workers.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has begun a two-day visit to Uttarakhand on Thursday as part of the Congress party’s efforts to strengthen its organisational base ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. The visit includes public outreach programmes, interaction with ex-servicemen, and meetings with party leaders and workers, marking a key political engagement for the party in the hill state.

Rahul Gandhi’s first major programme is scheduled in Almora, where he is expected to address a public gathering comprising party supporters and local residents. The event is being seen as an important attempt by the Congress to reconnect with grassroots voters in the region and rebuild political momentum in Uttarakhand, where electoral competition is expected to intensify in the coming years.

Later in the day, the Congress leader is set to travel to Pauri Garhwal, where he will interact with ex-servicemen at Kandoliya Ground. The meeting aims to understand their concerns and discuss issues related to welfare, pensions, and rehabilitation. Authorities have made extensive security arrangements across both venues, with police and administrative officials deployed to ensure smooth conduct of the programmes.

Given the high-profile nature of the visit, security agencies have been placed on alert, and enhanced arrangements have been implemented at all key locations. Officials confirmed that heavy police deployment has been made at Kandoliya Ground and surrounding areas to manage crowd movement and maintain law and order during the scheduled interactions.

Congress state in-charge Kumari Selja described the visit as significant for party outreach and claimed that there is considerable enthusiasm among the public. She also raised concerns over traffic congestion and administrative preparedness, alleging that inadequate arrangements by the state government could affect public participation in Rahul Gandhi’s programmes.

On the political front, the Bharatiya Janata Party responded to the visit with criticism, with Uttarakhand Minister Ganesh Joshi stating that Rahul Gandhi’s campaigns often end up indirectly benefiting the ruling party. The exchange highlights the continued political rivalry in the state as both major parties prepare for upcoming electoral battles in Uttarakhand.
