Punjab's Job Crisis Laid Bare: Hundreds Queue for 117 Temporary Pind Clinic Vacancies

Hundreds queue for 117 temporary Pind clinic jobs at Rs 620 daily in Punjab.

A large number of job seekers gathered outside the civil surgeon's office in Sangrur on Monday for a limited number of vacancies under the state’s ‘pind clinic’ initiative, highlighting growing concerns over unemployment in Punjab. The overwhelming turnout for just 117 positions underscored the widening gap between job availability and the number of applicants in the region.

The ‘Pind Clinic' scheme, an extension of the Aam Aadmi Clinics, aims to strengthen primary healthcare services in rural areas. However, the recruitment drive has drawn attention not only for its healthcare goals but also for the intense competition among candidates seeking employment opportunities.

Despite the temporary nature of the roles and a daily wage of ₹620, hundreds of candidates turned up to apply for the positions of 'Pind clinic in-charge’. The scale of participation reflects the pressing need for stable employment, with many applicants willing to compete for short-term roles with modest pay.

Candidates at the venue also raised concerns about inadequate arrangements during the recruitment process. Several applicants reported a lack of basic facilities such as drinking water, particularly troubling given the high temperatures and the large crowd gathered at the site.

Civil Surgeon Dr Amarjeet Kaur acknowledged the heavy turnout and stated that officials were working to accommodate all candidates. She noted that the process would continue into the following day as authorities were unable to attend to everyone within a single day.

The incident has once again brought focus to the employment challenges in Punjab, where limited job opportunities continue to attract massive responses even for temporary roles. It also raises questions about infrastructure and planning for large-scale recruitment drives amid increasing demand for public sector employment.
