Punjab Floods: Agri Minister Chouhan To Submit Damage Report To PM Modi

Chouhan vows full support, plans rehabilitation, and cites embankment weaknesses; 23 districts are declared flood-hit.

Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced on Friday that he will present a comprehensive report on Punjab's flood devastation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi following his visit to the affected regions. "The crisis is big, but the central government will leave no stone unturned to get out of this crisis," Chouhan stated on X, emphasising the destruction of crops statewide and affirming the Centre's solidarity with farmers.

He called for strategic reconstruction, including short- and long-term plans to mitigate future risks. Highlighting post-flood threats, Chouhan warned of disease outbreaks after waters recede, urging safe disposal of dead animals and silt removal from fields to protect upcoming crops. He blamed weakened embankments along the Sutlej, Beas, Ravi, and Ghaggar rivers on illegal mining, stressing the need to reinforce them: "Now, it is necessary to strengthen those structures so that Punjab can be saved from such tragedies in the future."

Chouhan commended the efforts of thousands of social workers providing aid, noting cross-state unity: "This spirit of unity and service gives us the strength to come out of even the biggest crisis."
