Born Shivaji Rao Gaekwad on December 12, 1950, Rajinikanth began his journey as a bus conductor in Bengaluru before legendary director K. Balachander spotted his talent and launched him in Tamil cinema with Apoorva Raagangal (1975). Over the next five decades, the actor redefined stardom with blockbuster hits like Baashha, Sivaji, Enthiran, Jailer, and the recent Vettaiyan, becoming a pan-Indian phenomenon who commands a massive following across languages and generations.
Just weeks ago, at the closing ceremony of the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, Rajinikanth was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award, officially commemorating his golden jubilee in the industry. The actor, visibly emotional on stage, had thanked his fans, directors, co-stars, and family for the incredible journey.
As the superstar celebrates his diamond birthday, theatres across Tamil Nadu and beyond are holding special screenings of his classic films, while fans have erected giant cutouts and distributed food to the needy, and social media remains flooded with the trending hashtag #HBDSuperStarRajinikanth. Even at 75, Rajinikanth shows no signs of slowing down—he is currently shooting for Coolie with Lokesh Kanagaraj and has multiple big projects lined up, proving once again why he remains the undisputed Thalaiva of Indian cinema.
