Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides in New Delhi on Friday, as the two leaders look to deepen cooperation across key sectors including trade, investment, connectivity and regional strategic issues. The meeting marks a significant engagement aimed at further strengthening India-Cyprus relations.
President Christodoulides arrived in the national capital on Thursday and was received at the airport by Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajay Tamta. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted on social media that the visiting President was accorded a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour upon his arrival, reflecting the diplomatic importance attached to the visit.
According to the MEA, the Cyprus President’s visit builds on the momentum generated by Prime Minister Modi’s historic visit to Cyprus in June 2025. Officials said the ongoing engagement reflects both countries’ shared commitment to expanding bilateral ties and exploring new areas of cooperation in a rapidly evolving global environment.

During his stay in New Delhi, President Christodoulides is also expected to call on President Droupadi Murmu, who will host an official banquet in his honour. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is scheduled to meet the visiting dignitary ahead of the Modi-Christodoulides talks at Hyderabad House, where discussions are expected to focus on enhancing economic collaboration and strategic partnerships.
The Cypriot President has described his State Visit to India as “very important,” saying it represents a crucial step in further strengthening what he called the “already excellent” relations between the two countries. His delegation includes Cyprus Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades, senior officials and business representatives, underscoring the economic focus of the visit.
As part of his India tour, Christodoulides also visited Mumbai, where he participated in an event at the National Stock Exchange. Alongside NSE Chairman Srinivas Injeti and Managing Director and CEO Ashishkumar Chauhan, he rang the ceremonial bell at the exchange and held discussions on enhancing financial and investment cooperation between India and Cyprus.
