PM Modi Receives Indonesia’s Highest Honour ‘Bintang Adipurna’ During Official Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been conferred with Indonesia's highest civilian honour, the ‘Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia’, during his ongoing visit to the country. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto announced the honour on Tuesday, recognising Modi's contribution to strengthening bilateral relations and promoting cooperation between India and Indonesia.

The Bintang Adipurna, also known as the Republic of Indonesia’s “Medal of Honour”, is the highest honour awarded by Indonesia. It is presented to individuals who have made exceptional contributions towards the unity, continuity and prosperity of the Republic of Indonesia. The recognition places Prime Minister Modi among the foreign leaders and distinguished personalities honoured for their significant contributions to Indonesia’s interests and international partnerships.

The award was announced during Modi’s visit to Jakarta, which marks the first leg of his three-nation overseas tour. The Prime Minister’s visit is focused on enhancing India-Indonesia cooperation across several key areas, including defence, trade, maritime security, food security and regional stability. The honour reflects the importance Indonesia attaches to its strategic partnership with India.

India and Indonesia share longstanding historical and cultural ties, along with growing economic and strategic cooperation. During his visit, Modi held discussions with Indonesian leadership on expanding bilateral cooperation and addressing shared challenges. Defence cooperation, economic engagement and food security are expected to remain key areas of focus as the two countries work towards deepening their strategic relationship. The talks also highlight the role of India and Indonesia as major partners in promoting stability and cooperation in the region. The conferment of the Bintang Adipurna honour adds to a series of international recognitions received by Prime Minister Modi during his tenure.

Several countries have previously honoured him for his contributions to strengthening diplomatic relations and advancing global cooperation. Modi’s visit to Indonesia comes under India’s broader Act East Policy, which aims to enhance engagement with Southeast Asian nations. Indonesia, as one of the largest economies in the region and a key member of ASEAN, remains an important partner for India in areas ranging from commerce and connectivity to security and cultural exchanges. The latest honour is expected to further highlight the close relationship between the two countries.
