PM Modi Receives Historic Welcome In Bratislava During First India PM Visit

PM Modi thanks Indian diaspora and highlights India-Slovakia ties in Bratislava visit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed gratitude for the warm reception he received in Bratislava during his official visit to Slovakia, describing the welcome from the Indian community as “truly special.” The visit marks a significant diplomatic engagement aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between India and Slovakia.

Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi said the warmth and affection shown by the Indian diaspora reflected the deep-rooted cultural and emotional bonds between the two countries. He added that such gestures continue to reinforce the friendship between India and Slovakia, highlighting the role of overseas Indian communities in fostering international relations.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the traditional Slovak gesture of welcoming guests with bread and salt, describing it as a meaningful cultural expression of hospitality, goodwill, and respect. The ceremonial welcome formed part of his reception at the Grand Hotel River Park, where he was greeted by Slovak officials and members of the Indian community.

During his stay, PM Modi also witnessed cultural performances by Slovak folk groups, including the Kopaniciarik ensemble from the Myjava region. He praised the presentation, noting that traditional art forms play an important role in preserving cultural identity and heritage across generations.

In addition to Slovak cultural engagements, the Prime Minister also shared highlights from his earlier visit to Nice, France, where he expressed optimism about strengthening India–France relations. His remarks underscored India’s broader diplomatic outreach during his multi-country European tour.

The visit to Slovakia is the first by an Indian Prime Minister since the country’s independence in 1993. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the trip is expected to deepen cooperation in areas such as trade, culture, and strategic engagement, while also building on recent high-level exchanges between the two nations.
