PM Modi Inaugurates Safran’s ₹1,300 Crore Aircraft Engine MRO Facility in Hyderabad
Safran’s new Hyderabad plant positions India as a global aviation MRO hub, creating over 1,000 skilled jobs.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Safran Aircraft Engine Services India (SAESI), the country’s first Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility established by a global aircraft engine original equipment manufacturer (OEM). Located at the GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park Special Economic Zone near Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, the state-of-the-art facility is dedicated to servicing LEAP engines that power aircraft such as the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX.
Spread over 45,000 square meters, the facility has an initial investment of approximately ₹1,300 crore and is designed to service up to 300 engines annually by 2035. It is expected to generate employment for more than 1,000 highly skilled Indian technicians and engineers as it reaches full operational capacity. The plant will include advanced equipment and processes aligned with Safran’s stringent global standards.
PM Modi emphasized that this milestone facility will help India emerge as a global hub for aviation MRO services, contributing significantly to the government's Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission by reducing dependence on foreign maintenance services. He also noted that India is among the fastest-growing domestic aviation markets worldwide, reinforcing the importance of enhancing indigenous capabilities in aviation maintenance.

The establishment of the SAESI facility is a part of India’s broader push to build a robust MRO ecosystem, supported by government initiatives like GST reforms and the National Civil Aviation Policy. This move is expected to strengthen supply-chain resilience, reduce foreign exchange outflows, and create high-value employment, bolstering India's position in global civil aviation.
Safran’s Hyderabad operations also include other aerospace manufacturing facilities and an engine maintenance training center, making the city an emerging aerospace hub. The arrival of this facility marks a key step in strengthening India’s aerospace ecosystem and supporting the long-term growth of its aviation industry.
