PM Modi and President Murmu Welcome Brazilian President at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Historic State Visit
President Lula arrived with over 300 businessmen and 11 cabinet ministers to deepen India-Brazil bilateral ties.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva received a ceremonial Guard of Honour at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday as part of his ongoing state visit to India. The welcome ceremony was held at the forecourt of the presidential residence with full state honours. The visit underscores strengthening ties between the two major Global South nations. Officials described the reception as part of the formal diplomatic protocol. The Brazilian leader is in India for bilateral engagements and the AI summit.
President Lula was received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu during the ceremony. The leaders exchanged greetings following the Guard of Honour. The visit is expected to deepen cooperation in trade, technology and strategic sectors. Diplomatic engagements between the two sides are scheduled during the trip. Both countries have been working to expand their partnership.
Earlier on Friday, Lula inaugurated the first office of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency in New Delhi. The new office aims to promote Brazilian products and services globally while attracting foreign investment into key sectors of Brazil’s economy. In a post on X, Lula highlighted the strong economic potential between the two nations. He noted that bilateral trade reached $15.2 billion in 2025. The Brazilian president added that there remains significant room for growth.

Brazil’s Ambassador to India Kenneth da Nobrega praised India’s efforts in organising the AI Impact Summit 2026. He said the relationship between Lula and Modi reflects growing strategic alignment. According to the envoy, the two leaders share strong personal chemistry in addition to professional cooperation. He described the partnership as elevating bilateral relations to a new historic level. The ambassador emphasised the importance of collaboration in emerging technologies.
Highlighting the scale of the visit, the envoy said Lula arrived with Brazil’s largest-ever delegation to India. The team includes more than 11 cabinet ministers, over 300 business leaders and around 50 CEOs. Officials believe the visit could unlock new investment and technology partnerships. The ambassador also described India as an emerging global hub for artificial intelligence. The state visit is expected to further strengthen India-Brazil ties across multiple sectors.
