Piyush Goyal Leads India’s Push To Strengthen Economic Cooperation With Greece
Goyal leads delegation to boost India-Greece trade ties.
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is leading a high-level Indian business delegation to Greece after concluding a series of engagements in the United Kingdom, as part of India’s broader effort to strengthen bilateral trade, investment flows, and strategic economic cooperation with key global partners. The visit underscores New Delhi’s continued push to expand economic diplomacy through structured engagement with governments, industry leaders, and startups across Europe.
During his UK visit, Goyal participated in the India-UK: Partners in Progress Business Plenary held in London, which brought together senior industry representatives and policymakers from both countries. The discussions reaffirmed strong momentum in India-UK economic relations, with stakeholders expressing robust support for the proposed Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). The agreement is being viewed as a potential framework to significantly enhance trade volumes, reduce barriers, and deepen long-term investment partnerships between the two economies.
Following the conclusion of the UK engagements, the minister’s delegation has now shifted focus to Greece, where the programme aims to build new avenues of cooperation in sectors such as infrastructure, technology, defence, agriculture, and digital innovation. According to official inputs, the visit reflects India’s intent to diversify its trade partnerships in Europe while also strengthening collaboration with emerging and established economic hubs in the Mediterranean region.

A key highlight of the Greece visit will be the delegation’s participation in startup presentations and business pitches at The Athens Startup Business Incubator (THEA). The platform is expected to showcase next-generation enterprises and innovation-driven companies from both India and Greece, creating opportunities for collaboration in areas such as deep tech, digital platforms, and emerging technologies. Officials said the engagement is designed to encourage cross-border innovation and strengthen entrepreneurial ecosystems.
The delegation will also hold structured roundtable discussions with industry leaders at the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI). These discussions will focus on identifying practical opportunities for cooperation in infrastructure development, digital transformation, defence manufacturing, and food and agriculture sectors. The aim is to facilitate greater private-sector engagement and build long-term commercial linkages that can support sustained economic growth for both countries.
The programme will further include visits to leading Greek enterprises, where Indian representatives are expected to explore potential collaboration in advanced manufacturing and technology-driven industries. The visit will conclude with high-level interactions involving key business and institutional stakeholders, aimed at deepening bilateral trade ties and strengthening investment partnerships. Officials noted that the combined UK and Greece engagements reflect India’s ongoing strategy of proactive trade diplomacy, focused on innovation, market expansion, and strengthening global economic partnerships.
