Petrol, Diesel Rates on March 13: Delhi at Rs 94.77, Hyderabad at Rs 107.50

Petrol and diesel prices hold steady across India despite Brent crude nearing $100.

Petrol and diesel prices across major Indian cities remained largely unchanged on Friday, March 13, even as global crude oil markets remained volatile amid rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. According to the latest price notifications issued by state-run oil marketing companies, fuel prices continued to vary across cities primarily due to differences in state-level taxes and transportation costs. The relative stability in domestic fuel rates comes despite sharp fluctuations in international crude benchmarks during the past week.

In the national capital, petrol was priced at ₹94.77 per litre, while diesel stood at ₹87.67 per litre. Fuel prices were significantly higher in cities such as Hyderabad and Patna, reflecting higher state taxes and local levies. In Mumbai, petrol was selling at ₹103.50 per litre and diesel at ₹90.03 per litre, while in Kolkata petrol cost ₹105.41 and diesel ₹92.02 per litre. Chennai reported petrol prices at ₹100.90 per litre and diesel at ₹92.48 per litre, maintaining the trend of higher rates in several southern and eastern regions.

Among other major cities, Hyderabad recorded petrol prices of ₹107.50 per litre and diesel at ₹95.70 per litre, placing it among the most expensive fuel markets in the country. In Bengaluru, petrol was priced at ₹102.96 and diesel at ₹90.99 per litre, while Pune saw petrol at ₹104.04 and diesel at ₹90.57 per litre. In northern cities such as Lucknow, petrol stood at ₹95.48 and diesel at ₹88.64 per litre, whereas Jaipur recorded ₹104.72 for petrol and ₹90.21 for diesel.

Western India saw comparatively moderate fuel prices in some markets. In Ahmedabad, petrol was priced at ₹94.49 per litre and diesel at ₹90.21 per litre, making it one of the relatively cheaper cities among major urban centres. Patna, however, continued to record higher prices with petrol at ₹105.47 per litre and diesel at ₹91.49 per litre. Industry analysts note that such variations are largely driven by differences in state value-added tax rates and local charges applied to petroleum products.

Global crude oil prices remained a key factor influencing domestic fuel costs. The international benchmark, Brent crude, hovered near the $100-per-barrel mark after experiencing one of the most volatile trading weeks in recent years. Meanwhile, West Texas Intermediate traded close to $96 per barrel. The sharp price movements reflect growing concerns about possible supply disruptions as geopolitical tensions intensify around the Strait of Hormuz.

Fuel prices in India are influenced by several factors, with global crude oil costs playing the most significant role as crude is the primary raw material used to produce petrol and diesel. The rupee–dollar exchange rate also affects the final price since India imports a large share of its crude oil requirements. In addition, central excise duty and state-level value-added tax significantly shape retail fuel rates, which explains the price differences observed across cities in the country.
