Oman's Automobile City to Open First Phase in Salalah by 2027

Oman is preparing to open the first phase of its Automobile City project in Salalah in the second quarter of 2027, with construction work reportedly nearing the halfway mark. The development is being positioned as an integrated destination for businesses operating across the automotive sector and is expected to bring several related activities together at a single location.

The first phase of the project will cover around 53,000 square metres, according to Faisal Al Dheeb, managing director of Al Amal Al Daem International Company, the contracting firm involved in the development. He said nearly half of the construction work has already been completed, putting the project on course for its planned opening next year.

Automobile City is intended to create a dedicated hub for the automotive industry, bringing together businesses and services connected to vehicles. The project is expected to support activities such as vehicle sales, maintenance, spare parts and other automotive-related services, creating a more organised environment for companies and customers.

The development in Salalah is also expected to strengthen the city's role as a commercial centre in southern Oman. By creating dedicated infrastructure for automotive businesses, the project could help attract companies operating in different parts of the vehicle supply chain and provide them with facilities designed specifically for their activities.

The planned opening of the first phase in 2027 comes as Oman continues to develop large-scale commercial and infrastructure projects aimed at diversifying economic activity. Projects focused on specialised sectors such as automobiles can contribute to investment, employment and the expansion of supporting businesses, while also improving access to related services.

With construction progressing towards completion, attention will now turn to the remaining development work and the businesses expected to operate from the site. If the current schedule is maintained, the first phase of Automobile City will begin operations in Salalah during the second quarter of 2027, marking the start of a dedicated automotive hub in the region.
