Ola Electric Receives Government Certification For 4680 Bharat Cell Powered Roadster X+

Ola Electric secures government certification for India’s first electric bike powered by an in-house 4680 Bharat Cell.

Ola Electric achieved a major milestone on December 30, 2025, after its flagship electric motorcycle, the Roadster X+ (9.1 kWh), received government certification under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR), 1989. The approval was granted by the International Centre for Automotive Technology (iCAT), Manesar—a government testing agency—following rigorous vehicle-level testing for safety, electrical performance, range, gradeability, noise, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and braking. This certification clears the path for Ola Electric to commence deliveries of the Roadster X+ in the coming days.

The Roadster X+ becomes the first electric motorcycle in India to be certified with a completely in-house developed 4680 Bharat Cell battery pack. This high-energy-density battery, manufactured domestically by Ola, powers the model and delivers an industry-leading range of up to 500 km on a single charge. The certification extends Ola's indigenous 4680 Bharat Cell technology across its entire two-wheeler portfolio, including both electric scooters and motorcycles. Separately, the 9.1 kWh battery pack has also received approval from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) under AIS-156 Amendment 4, successfully passing stringent safety and durability tests such as water immersion, thermal runaway, fire safety, vibration, and mechanical shock.

An Ola Electric spokesperson described the development as a defining step in the company's journey toward building end-to-end EV technology in India. "We are delivering an unmatched range along with superior performance, safety, and reliability, powered entirely by our own cell and battery technology. This is a defining step towards accelerating EV adoption in India's motorcycle-dominated two-wheeler market," the spokesperson said. By addressing range anxiety through this breakthrough, Ola aims to make long-distance electric motorcycling more practical and expand adoption into Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities beyond major metros.

The certification follows comprehensive validation that ensures compliance with the highest regulatory and safety standards set by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). This achievement underscores Ola Electric's focus on vertical integration, reducing dependence on global supply chains, and strengthening India's domestic EV ecosystem. With deliveries of the Roadster X+ now imminent, the model is expected to set new benchmarks in performance, efficiency, and accessibility for electric motorcycles in the country.
