No More Turkey! Alwar Traders Ban Turkish Apples in Boycott Over Pakistan Support
Alwar Traders Ban Turkish Apples in Boycott Over Turkey's Pakistan Support
Alwar’s fruit markets have pulled Turkish apples from shelves as traders join a nationwide boycott of Turkish products, sparked by Turkiye’s support for Pakistan during India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’ strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
The Fruit Mandi Union in Alwar halted sales of Turkish apples, reflecting public anger and aiming to hit Turkiye’s economy, following similar boycotts in Delhi, Mumbai, and Ajmer’s marble trade.
“Turkiye’s stand against India prompted us to stop selling their apples. This is a message,” said Saurabh Kalra, General Secretary of the Union.

He noted that 15 tonnes of Turkish apples arrive daily in Rajasthan from March to June. Starting Friday, posters urging a boycott will adorn shops, with an awareness campaign ensuring compliance. “Selling Turkish apples will be seen as against national interest,” Kalra warned.
Pankaj Saini, Union Secretary, assured that apples from Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and South Africa, stored in cold facilities, will meet demand.
Traders also urged Indians to shun Turkish tourism, with Saini stating, “If Turkiye backs Pakistan, we’ll respond economically.” The boycott stems from Turkiye’s condemnation of India’s strikes and Pakistan’s use of Turkish drones in the conflict, escalating tensions.
The move aligns with broader economic retaliation, including Adani Airports’ termination of agreements with Turkish firm Celebi. Alwar’s traders, echoing national sentiment, aim to pressure Turkiye through market actions while ensuring consumers face no shortages.
