Nirmala Sitharaman To Visit Canada, US From August 25 To September 2
Sitharaman will pursue investment and economic cooperation in Canada, US.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will undertake an official visit to Canada and the United States from August 25 to September 2, with the tour focused on strengthening bilateral economic and financial partnerships, deepening investment ties and advancing cooperation on shared global economic priorities. The visit comes as India continues to engage with key international partners on investment, financial cooperation and emerging economic challenges.
In Toronto, Sitharaman will participate in the inaugural Economic and Financial Dialogue with Canada’s Minister of Finance and National Revenue, Francois-Philippe Champagne. The meeting will provide a platform to discuss macroeconomic developments, cooperation in the financial sector, bilateral investment opportunities and international economic priorities. The dialogue is also expected to strengthen the economic and financial component of the renewed India-Canada partnership.
Sitharaman will also participate in an Investment Roundtable with senior representatives and business leaders, particularly from the energy, artificial intelligence and critical minerals sectors. The discussions will focus on creating stronger business-to-business links, identifying investment opportunities and developing long-term commercial partnerships between India and Canada. Opportunities connected with GIFT City-IFSC are also expected to feature in the discussions.

During the US leg of her tour, Sitharaman will travel to Chicago, Asheville in North Carolina and New York. In Chicago, she will participate in a roundtable with prominent investors and engage with senior executives from the private sector to discuss India’s investment opportunities, economic outlook and ways to strengthen commercial ties between the two countries. She will also visit the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Chicago.
In Asheville, Sitharaman will lead the Indian delegation at the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting being held under the US Presidency of the G20. The meeting will provide an opportunity for India to participate in discussions on global economic and financial issues alongside other G20 members. Her participation will form a key component of the US leg of the official visit.
In New York, the Finance Minister will attend an Investor Roundtable with CEOs and senior representatives of leading companies based in the city. She will also participate in a bell-ringing ceremony hosted by NASDAQ. According to the Finance Ministry, the engagements will provide an opportunity to understand developments in technology-driven financial markets and the changing relationship between technology and capital markets, while promoting greater investment and economic cooperation between India and North American partners.
