Netflix Signs MoU with IICT and FICCI to Boost Creative Education in India

Netflix partners with IICT, FICCI to train future creators.

Streaming powerhouse Netflix has unveiled an ambitious partnership with the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) to cultivate India’s next generation of creative and technological talent. The announcement was made during the 25th edition of FICCI Frames, a premier media and entertainment summit held in Mumbai, marking a significant step toward bolstering India’s Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) ecosystem.

The collaboration, formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), leverages Netflix’s Fund for Creative Equity to provide scholarships to select students identified in collaboration with IICT. The fund, designed to empower underrepresented communities in the media and entertainment industry, aims to break barriers and create equitable opportunities for aspiring creators. Through this initiative, Netflix will support students with financial aid, mentorship, and access to cutting-edge industry practices, fostering a new wave of storytellers and technologists.

Netflix will also play a pivotal role in shaping India’s AVGC-XR sector by participating in three of IICT’s national councils: the Research and Development Council, the Academic Council, and the Industry Development Council. These councils bring together experts from academia, industry, and policy to drive innovation and establish India as a global hub for creative technologies. The partnership is expected to bridge the gap between academic training and industry demands, equipping students with the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

Mahima Kaul, Director of Global Affairs at Netflix India, emphasized the transformative potential of the collaboration. “Our goal is to strengthen India’s AVGC sector by nurturing world-class talent. IICT’s vision aligns with ours to empower youth and enhance India’s creative capabilities. Together, we’re equipping aspiring creators with the tools and opportunities to drive innovation in entertainment,” Kaul said in a statement.

Dr. Vishwas Deoskar, Chief Executive Officer of IICT, hailed the partnership as a landmark effort to connect academia with the creative industry. “This collaboration with Netflix and FICCI is a game-changer. By providing hands-on experience, mentorship, and exposure to global best practices, we’re preparing the next generation of storytellers and technologists to lead India’s dynamic AVGC-XR ecosystem,” Deoskar noted.

Munjal Shroff, Chairman of FICCI’s AVGC-XR Forum, echoed this sentiment, underscoring the partnership’s broader impact. “FICCI is proud to facilitate this collaboration, which will not only solidify India’s position as a global leader in creative technologies but also foster future-ready talent, drive innovation, and create sustainable growth pathways in the sector,” Shroff said.

The initiative comes at a time when India’s AVGC-XR industry is experiencing rapid growth, fueled by increasing global demand for high-quality animation, gaming, and immersive experiences. By investing in talent development, Netflix, IICT, and FICCI aim to position India as a powerhouse in the global creative economy, creating opportunities for thousands of young professionals and driving innovation that could redefine storytelling and technology on a global stage.
