Nestle Reports 12 Tonnes of KitKat Stolen in Europe Ahead of Easter
12 tonnes of KitKat stolen in Europe; shortages feared soon.
A shipment of 12 tonnes of Nestlé’s KitKat chocolate bars has been stolen in Europe, raising concerns about possible shortages in stores ahead of Easter, the company said. The heist involved 413,793 units of KitKat’s new chocolate range, which disappeared last week while in transit between production and distribution sites.
Nestlé confirmed the theft in a statement on Saturday, noting that the vehicle and its contents remain unaccounted for. The stolen truck had departed from central Italy and was en route to Poland, with plans to distribute the chocolate bars to several European countries along the way.
A spokesperson for KitKat, referencing the brand’s famous slogan, said, “We’ve always encouraged people to have a break with KitKat. But it seems thieves have taken the message too literally and made a break with more than 12 tonnes of our chocolate.”

The company warned that the stolen bars “could enter unofficial sales channels across European markets,” potentially affecting consumers looking to purchase KitKats in the coming weeks. KitKat acknowledged that shoppers “may struggle to find their favourite chocolates ahead of Easter” due to the incident.
To aid in tracing the stolen goods, KitKat noted that each bar has a unique batch code. If a match is found, the scanner will be provided instructions to alert the company, which will then take appropriate action in collaboration with authorities.
Investigations are ongoing, with Nestlé working closely with local authorities and supply chain partners to recover the stolen shipment. The company emphasized that ensuring consumer safety and preventing the illicit sale of the chocolate bars remain top priorities during the probe.
