Mumbai: 17-Year-Old Allegedly at Wheel as Mercedes Hits Vehicle in Coastal Road Tunnel, 3 Hurt

Three people were injured after a Mercedes car, allegedly being driven by a minor, rammed into another vehicle inside the Mumbai Coastal Road tunnel, police said on Tuesday. The incident took place when the luxury car lost control and collided with a car ahead of it, causing panic inside the tunnel.

According to police officials, the Mercedes was being driven at a high speed when it hit the other vehicle from behind. The impact left three occupants of the second car injured. They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors said their injuries were not life-threatening.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that a minor was behind the wheel of the Mercedes at the time of the crash. Police said they are verifying how the minor gained access to the vehicle and whether an adult was present in the car during the incident. The vehicle has been seized as part of the investigation.

The accident caused brief traffic disruption inside the tunnel as emergency teams and police reached the spot to clear the damaged vehicles. Authorities said normal traffic movement was restored after the vehicles were removed and the injured were taken to hospital.

Police have registered a case and said action will be taken under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, including provisions related to allowing a minor to drive. Officials said the role of the vehicle’s owner is also being examined.

The incident has once again raised concerns over minors driving vehicles in the city and the responsibility of parents and guardians. Police have urged vehicle owners to strictly follow traffic laws, warning that violations involving underage drivers will attract strict legal action.
