Mid-Career Pros Drive AI Revolution, Demand Upskilling
Mid-career professionals are actively seeking upskilling to stay future-ready.
A recent report by global job platform Indeed, released on August 19, 2025, in Mumbai, highlights the pivotal role of mid-career professionals in driving India’s digital and workplace transformation. The ‘Work Ahead report,’ based on a May 2025 survey by Censuswide involving 3,001 workers and business leaders across 12 industries, reveals that 56% of mid-career professionals (aged 35–54) seek additional training to remain competitive, compared to 41% of younger workers (aged 18–24).
The report underscores a growing confidence among mid-career professionals, with 49% expressing readiness to navigate AI-integrated workplaces, surpassing their younger counterparts. “Mid-career professionals are not only using AI but actively seeking upskilling opportunities to master it,” said Sashi Kumar, Indeed India Head of Sales. He noted the rising interest in Agentic AI—systems capable of autonomously handling complex tasks—as a sign of proactive leadership in workplace evolution.
The survey, spanning technology, retail, manufacturing, healthcare, and other sectors, found that 34% of respondents anticipate frequent use of Generative AI tools in the near future, while 25% expect to adopt Agentic AI. Notably, AI is penetrating even traditionally hands-on roles, with 70% of blue-collar workers reporting that technology enhances their work, and 20% already using Generative AI for tasks like streamlining paperwork and improving customer service.

Upskilling is a priority, with 29% of the workforce seeking self-paced online training programs to upgrade skills flexibly. Kumar emphasized that AI proficiency is becoming a “career accelerator,” positioning workers for higher pay, promotions, and future opportunities. As India’s workforce embraces AI, mid-career professionals are leading the charge, ensuring they remain at the forefront of this transformative era.
