Marco Rubio reaffirms strong India-US relations after Jaishankar meeting.
India–United States relations remain strong and forward-moving, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Sunday following high-level talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in New Delhi. Rubio emphasised that bilateral ties between the two countries have not lost momentum and are expected to strengthen further in the coming years.
Speaking after the meeting, Rubio said both nations remain strategically aligned on most major global issues and expressed optimism that a long-pending trade agreement between India and the United States could be finalised soon. He noted that ongoing discussions between the two sides reflect sustained engagement across economic, strategic, and geopolitical domains.
The talks between Rubio and Jaishankar also covered key regional and global developments, including the situation in West Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and East Asia. Both leaders reviewed security and economic concerns arising from ongoing geopolitical tensions and underscored the importance of continued cooperation in maintaining stability and ensuring open global trade routes.

Jaishankar said India remains committed to “unimpeded maritime commerce,” highlighting the importance of free and secure sea routes for global trade. He added that discussions also included civil nuclear cooperation and recent advancements in the energy partnership between India and the United States, which both sides welcomed as a positive step forward.
The meeting comes amid broader diplomatic efforts to deepen India–US ties across defence, energy, technology, and trade sectors. Both governments have in recent years expanded collaboration on strategic initiatives, with officials from both sides indicating that the relationship continues to evolve into a comprehensive global partnership.
