Mahindra Group’s Big Bet: Massive Expansion Planned in Hospitality Sector

Mahindra Group plans major hospitality expansion, targeting 10,000 rooms by 2030.

Mahindra Group is set to significantly expand its footprint in India’s booming travel and tourism sector, with its hospitality arm, Mahindra Holidays & Resorts India Ltd (MHRIL), exploring new avenues beyond its traditional vacation ownership model. In an interview with PTI Videos, CEO and Managing Director Anish Shah described the company’s target of 10,000 rooms by 2030 as “conservative,” citing the surge in domestic tourism post-COVID-19.

Shah emphasized the group’s ambition to become India’s leading leisure hospitality player. “Our goal is to be number one, delivering exceptional experiences for families at leisure destinations,” he said, noting the overwhelmingly positive feedback from guests at MHRIL resorts. The company is actively evaluating new business models to scale its operations, moving beyond its Club Mahindra-focused approach to potentially include conventional hotels and other hospitality formats.

“As we develop these options and define our model, we’ll gain a clearer sense of how to play this on a much larger scale,” Shah explained. He highlighted the evolving strategy of MHRIL, which has traditionally focused on vacation ownership but is now poised for broader growth in the sector.

MHRIL, with a current inventory of 5,794 keys as of June 30, 2025, plans to add approximately 1,000 rooms this fiscal year as part of its aggressive expansion to reach 10,000 rooms by FY30. Shah’s vision underscores Mahindra Group’s commitment to capitalizing on India’s tourism boom, positioning MHRIL as a dominant force in the hospitality industry with a focus on delivering unparalleled guest experiences.
