Madhya Pradesh To Light 5.8 Million Lamps On PM Modi’s Birthday
Statewide lamp-lighting planned alongside a month-long service campaign.
The Madhya Pradesh government will light 5.8 million lamps across the state on September 17 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday and commemorate his 25-year journey in public service. The programme will include the Mahakal Mahalok in Ujjain, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said on Saturday.
The lamp-lighting event will be followed by a month-long ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ from September 17 to October 17. According to the state government, the campaign will focus on public service and welfare activities, with the aim of making the spirit of service an integral part of political and governance culture.
Yadav said the celebrations would mark Modi’s journey in public life, which began when he became Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001. He said Modi’s tenure as Chief Minister and later as Prime Minister had focused on bringing poor people, farmers, youth, women and marginalised sections into the mainstream of development.

The Chief Minister described the lighting of lamps across Madhya Pradesh as an expression of gratitude for Modi’s 25 years of public service and dedication. He said the celebrations would place emphasis on the concept of service rather than political office, while highlighting the importance of public welfare in governance.
The ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ will be conducted across the state over the one-month period, with activities centred on public service and welfare. Religious, cultural and other public places, including the Mahakal Mahalok in Ujjain, will participate in the wider programme, according to the state government.
Yadav said Madhya Pradesh’s development agenda was being pursued alongside the broader goal of building a developed India. He said the state government was drawing inspiration from Modi’s public service journey while working towards development, good governance and self-reliance, with a focus on improving the lives of people across different sections of society.
