Luthra Brothers Bail Rejected in Goa Fire Tragedy Case

The sessions court at Mapusa rejects bail for the nightclub fire accused.

A sessions court in Mapusa on Thursday rejected the bail applications of Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra, owners of the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub, where 25 people were killed in a devastating fire in December 2025. The court’s decision comes amid ongoing investigations into the incident that shocked the coastal state.

The fire broke out on December 6, 2025, at the nightclub located in Arpora village in North Goa while it was hosting a dance party. In addition to the 25 fatalities, around 50 people sustained injuries in the blaze, making it one of the deadliest fire tragedies in the region in recent years. Authorities had launched a probe to determine the cause of the fire and examine possible lapses in safety compliance.

The Luthra brothers, who own the establishment, had approached the sessions court seeking bail. However, the court rejected their pleas after hearing arguments from both sides. The detailed order outlining the court’s reasoning was not immediately available.

Advocate Vishnu Joshi, representing the families of the victims, described the ruling as a significant moment in their pursuit of justice. Speaking to reporters outside the court, he termed the rejection of bail a “victory” for the families who have been demanding accountability since the tragedy.

The case has drawn widespread public attention, raising concerns over fire safety norms and regulatory enforcement at entertainment venues in Goa. The investigation remains ongoing, and further legal proceedings are expected as authorities continue to examine responsibility for the incident.
