Kudumbashree Reports ₹10.07 Crore Turnover From Onam Vegetable and Flower Sales
Kudumbashree's women farmer groups post record Onam market earnings.
Kudumbashree’s farm livelihood and agriculture activities recorded a strong performance during the Onam season, with its markets across Kerala generating a record turnover of ₹10.07 crore. The markets were organised across all 14 districts as part of the State government’s efforts to strengthen market interventions during the festival season. The six-day sales period saw vegetables and flowers cultivated by women farmers reach consumers through dedicated Onam markets.
The markets were held over six days from August 20 to 25, providing a platform for Kudumbashree’s women farming groups to sell their produce directly during a period of high seasonal demand. Products cultivated by more than 33,000 Joint Liability Groups of women farmers were made available through the markets. The initiative helped connect local agricultural production with consumers while creating additional income opportunities for participating farming groups.
The record turnover marks a significant achievement for Kudumbashree’s farm livelihood vertical, which supports women involved in agriculture and related activities. The Onam season provides an important opportunity for farmers to market vegetables and flowers, as demand for fresh produce rises during the festival. By organising markets across the State, Kudumbashree sought to provide an organised avenue for its farming groups to sell their products and participate directly in the seasonal market.

The initiative also formed part of the government’s broader market intervention efforts during Onam. Dedicated markets helped bring locally cultivated produce to consumers at a time when demand for vegetables and flowers traditionally increases. The participation of thousands of women farming groups ensured that products grown through Kudumbashree-supported agricultural activities were brought into the festival-season marketplace on a large scale.
Kudumbashree’s agriculture-related activities are built around women’s participation in farming through collective and group-based initiatives. Joint Liability Groups enable women farmers to work together in cultivation and marketing, helping them participate more effectively in agricultural activities. The scale of this year’s Onam sales highlights the role these groups can play in supplying locally produced agricultural commodities while also contributing to household and community-level livelihoods.
The ₹10.07-crore turnover from the six-day Onam markets provides a boost to Kudumbashree’s farm livelihood activities and demonstrates the demand for locally cultivated vegetables and flowers during the festival period. With markets organised in all 14 districts and products from more than 33,000 women farmers’ Joint Liability Groups being sold, the initiative created a large distribution network for seasonal agricultural produce. The strong sales performance also underscores the importance of organised market access for women involved in farming.
