K Kavitha Launches TRS After Exiting BRS In Telangana Political Shift

Months after her dramatic exit from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi , Kalvakuntla Kavitha formally launched her new political outfit, Telangana Rashtra Sena, on April 24, 2026, reviving the acronym of her father K. Chandrashekar Rao's original party. Surrounded by supporters at a private venue in Munirabad, Medchal district, the former Nizamabad MP unveiled the party's name, flag, and agenda, framing it as a return to Telangana-focused politics.

Kavitha was suspended from BRS in September 2025 for alleged anti-party activities, resigning her MLC post and primary membership shortly after. She accused the party's 2022 rebranding from TRS to BRS of diluting its regional identity in favor of national ambitions, leading to electoral setbacks and unmet promises on water, jobs, and resources. The launch cements her split from father KCR and brother K.T. Rama Rao.

The TRS nomenclature carries heavy symbolism, tapping nostalgia for the Telangana statehood movement KCR spearheaded through TRS since 2001. Kavitha positioned her party as the "true regional voice," promising welfare for all sections while targeting BRS and BJP over bifurcation betrayals like denied national project status and diverted investments.

This launch marks Telangana's deepening political churn post-BRS's 2023 defeat. Kavitha's TRS enters a crowded field against Congress, BJP, and a resurgent BRS, betting on regional sentiment revival through the familiar TRS brand.
