Jaishankar Meets With FBI Chief Kash Patel and US DNI Tulsi Gabbard

Jaishankar Strengthens India-US Ties with Key Meetings in Washington

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held high-level meetings with FBI Director Kash Patel and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard in Washington, DC, on Wednesday, reinforcing India-US cooperation on critical global and bilateral issues.

The discussions, held on the sidelines of the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, focused on countering organized crime, drug trafficking, terrorism, and broader strategic collaboration. Jaishankar, sharing insights on social media platform X, expressed appreciation for the robust partnership with the FBI, stating, “Great to meet @FBIDirectorKash today. Appreciate our strong cooperation in countering organised crime, drug trafficking and terrorism.”

In a separate meeting with Gabbard, he noted a “good exchange on the global situation and our bilateral cooperation,” highlighting the deepening ties between the two nations.

The meetings come in the wake of a significant crackdown on a transnational drug-smuggling operation, with India’s Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) collaborating with the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to arrest a key figure in Alabama and seize over 17,000 tablets of controlled medication. This operation underscores the growing synergy in intelligence-sharing and counterterrorism efforts, a priority for India, especially given concerns about terrorism supporters in North America.

Jaishankar’s visit, at the invitation of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, also included discussions with Rubio, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Energy Secretary Chris Wright, covering trade, security, critical technologies, energy, and Indo-Pacific stability. The Quad meeting, involving Australia and Japan, emphasized a free and open Indo-Pacific, with Jaishankar noting its focus on addressing contemporary challenges.

These engagements highlight India’s strategic push to bolster global partnerships, particularly with the US, in tackling shared security and geopolitical challenges.
