Death toll reaches 9; six tourists still missing as search teams continue Bargi Dam operations.
Two days after the cruise boat tragedy at Bargi Dam, the death toll has risen to nine after five more bodies were recovered on Friday. Rescue teams are continuing search operations for six tourists who remain missing. The accident has shocked the state and triggered widespread concern over tourism safety standards and emergency preparedness.
The cruise boat, operated by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department, reportedly overturned after being caught in a sudden storm on Thursday evening. Officials said 28 tourists were rescued from the water, while several others went missing after the vessel capsized. Survivors described scenes of panic as strong winds and rough waters struck the boat within moments.
Search and rescue operations are being carried out by teams from the Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). Divers and emergency personnel have been working continuously in difficult conditions to locate the missing tourists. Authorities said every possible effort is being made to speed up the recovery operation.

The tragedy has also raised serious allegations of negligence. Survivors claimed that passengers were either not given life jackets or that safety procedures were not properly followed before departure. In response, the state government has ordered an official probe into the incident and has dismissed three members of the boat crew pending investigation.
Rescue workers reportedly witnessed heartbreaking scenes during the operation, including the recovery of a woman’s body still clutching her child. As families wait anxiously for news of the missing, the disaster has become one of Madhya Pradesh’s most tragic tourism accidents in recent memory.
