Infosys Highlights Need For New Skills And Mental Models Amid AI Adoption
Infosys says AI won’t replace jobs but requires new skills and mindset shifts.
Infosys has said that artificial intelligence (AI) will not replace the company, while acknowledging that the technology shift demands fresh learning approaches and new “mental models” for the future of the IT industry. Speaking at the company’s 45th Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, Infosys Non-Executive Chairman Nandan Nilekani said that the greatest value in the evolving technology landscape will come from combining AI agents and models with traditional software systems. He added that this integration is expected to redefine how enterprises build and deploy digital solutions.
Nilekani noted that clients are increasingly preferring to build customised software tailored to their requirements rather than simply purchasing standard solutions from IT service providers. He said this shift creates expanded opportunities for Infosys, particularly in supplying underlying infrastructure such as AI models, cloud platforms, and application programming interfaces (APIs), which support enterprise-scale AI adoption.

He described artificial intelligence as a “much larger and disruptive technology” and said the industry is currently undergoing a significant transition. According to him, while there is a clear gap in AI deployment among large enterprise clients, the focus now is on closing that gap by enabling faster, more scalable, and enterprise-ready AI integration. He also said Infosys currently works on AI initiatives with nearly 90 per cent of its top 200 clients.
Nilekani further projected that the AI-first services market could grow to between $300 billion and $400 billion by 2030, positioning it as a major driver of future industry growth. He added that Infosys remains strongly positioned, citing disciplined execution in fiscal 2026, including constant currency growth of 3.1 per cent and total contract value deals worth $14.9 billion across 96 engagements.
Chief Executive Officer Salil Parekh also said that Infosys’s AI-related revenue currently stands at about $1 billion annually and is growing rapidly. The company said it has recruited more than 20,000 graduates this fiscal year, taking its total workforce to over 325,000 employees, reflecting continued expansion despite the ongoing technological transition.
