IndiGo Sets Ambitious Goal: 40% Overseas Capacity and 4,000 Flights Daily by 2030

IndiGo eyes major international growth from the current 2,200 flights and 124 million passengers in 2025 to 200 million and expanded global reach.

IndiGo, India’s largest airline by market share, has set ambitious expansion targets for the end of the decade, aiming to significantly scale up both its international footprint and overall operations. Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers said the airline plans to allocate nearly 40 percent of its total capacity to overseas routes and operate more than 4,000 daily flights by 2030, including domestic services.

Speaking on the airline’s growth strategy, Elbers highlighted IndiGo’s strong focus on international markets as a key driver of its long-term vision. Currently, the carrier operates over 2,200 flights each day, supported by a fleet of approximately 440 aircraft, making it one of the fastest-growing airlines globally in terms of fleet size and network reach.

By the end of the decade, the airline aims to more than double its operational scale. Pieter said IndiGo is targeting the carriage of around 200 million passengers annually and plans to operate across more than 4,000 routes worldwide by 2030. This expansion will include deeper penetration into existing international markets as well as the launch of new long-haul and regional overseas destinations.

The airline’s recent performance underscores the momentum behind these plans. In 2025, IndiGo carried approximately 124 million passengers, reflecting sustained demand for air travel and the carrier’s dominant position in India’s fast-growing aviation market. The airline has consistently benefited from a low-cost business model, high aircraft utilization, and a strong domestic network feeding international routes.

India’s civil aviation sector is projected to see robust growth over the coming years, driven by rising middle-class incomes, improved airport infrastructure, and increased regional connectivity. IndiGo’s expansion strategy aligns closely with these trends, positioning the airline to capture a larger share of international traffic originating from India.

If achieved, the targets outlined by Pieter would mark a significant milestone for IndiGo, reinforcing its role not only as India’s leading airline but also as a major global aviation player by the end of the decade.
