IndiGo Back to Normal: 65,000 Staff Mobilised to Fix Flight Crisis
IndiGo deploys all 65,000 employees to fully restore operations after mass cancellations.
IndiGo, India’s largest airline, announced that all 65,000 of its employees are actively engaged in restoring normal flight operations following a week of severe disruptions. The airline’s parent company, InterGlobe Aviation Ltd., stated on social media that the CEO and senior management have been leading efforts around the clock to ensure network stability. The disruptions, which began on December 2, caused mass flight cancellations and delays across the country.
The IndiGo Board has been closely monitoring the situation, with its Crisis Management Group convening daily to coordinate recovery strategies. These meetings have involved direct engagement with the CEO, senior management, and ground operations teams to prioritize the resumption of regular services. According to the airline, operations were “fully stabilized” as of Tuesday, signaling a return to normalcy.
CEO Pieter Elbers emphasized that the airline is “back on its feet” and that teams across departments are working tirelessly to manage flight schedules, support passengers, and prevent further disruptions. IndiGo’s statement highlighted that the comprehensive mobilization of staff is aimed at minimizing inconvenience to travelers while ensuring operational efficiency.

The Centre has temporarily rolled back certain provisions of new rostering norms, which were initially identified as one of the key triggers behind the disruption. IndiGo also cited challenges from adverse weather conditions and technical infrastructure issues as contributing factors. In addition, the government imposed an Rs 18,000 fare cap for flights covering distances over 1,500 km to protect passengers during the crisis.
Union Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu confirmed that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued show-cause notices to IndiGo’s senior leadership. The DGCA has launched a detailed enforcement investigation to examine the causes of the disruptions. The minister warned that strict action will follow based on the findings of the probe.
Industry experts noted that IndiGo’s swift mobilization of its workforce reflects the airline’s commitment to operational resilience. The crisis has sparked discussions about the impact of regulatory changes on airline efficiency, as well as the importance of robust contingency planning to manage large-scale disruptions in India’s aviation sector.
