India's Tea Output Crashes 9% in June

Tea production falls to 133.5M kg amid weather woes.

India's tea production plummeted by 9% to 133.5 million kg in June 2025, down from 146.72 million kg in June 2024, according to Tea Board data. The Indian Tea Association attributed the sharp decline to adverse weather conditions and pest attacks.

North India, including key tea-growing regions like West Bengal and Assam, saw production drop to 112.51 million kg from 121.52 million kg in the same period last year. South India also faced a downturn, with output falling to 20.99 million kg from 25.20 million kg in June 2024.

Both large and small tea producers were hit hard. Organized planters produced 55.21 million kg, a significant decrease from 68.38 million kg in June 2024, while small growers recorded 68.28 million kg, down from 78.34 million kg last year.
