India's Dairy Grew 70% Under PM Modi: 146MT to 239MT Milk Output
Dairy output rises 70% from 146MT to 239MT under PM Modi.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said India’s dairy sector has witnessed a 70% growth over the past decade under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the government’s push to strengthen rural economy and cooperative institutions.
Addressing an event focused on the dairy and cooperative sector, Shah credited policy reforms, improved infrastructure, and greater farmer participation for the significant expansion. He noted that India has consolidated its position as the world’s largest milk producer, with consistent increases in output and productivity.
The minister emphasized the role of cooperative bodies such as Amul in driving growth, stating that the cooperative model has ensured better price realization for farmers while expanding market access. He also underlined efforts to modernize dairy processing, improve cold chain logistics, and promote value-added products.

According to Shah, government initiatives over the past decade have focused on increasing rural incomes by strengthening allied agricultural sectors like dairy. Schemes aimed at supporting livestock health, artificial insemination, and digital platforms for farmers have contributed to higher efficiency and output.
The remarks come amid broader efforts by the government to boost the cooperative movement, which plays a critical role in India’s dairy ecosystem. Officials say continued investment in infrastructure and technology will be key to sustaining growth in the coming years.
Shah also reiterated the government’s commitment to further expanding the dairy sector, positioning it as a cornerstone of rural development and economic resilience, particularly for small and marginal farmers across the country.
