Indian Railways Announces 908 Summer Special Trains Operating 18,262 Trips From April to July
Indian Railways is to operate 908 summer special trains running 18,262 trips from April to July 2026.
Indian Railways has announced that it will operate more than 18,200 summer special train trips in 2026 to manage the seasonal surge in passenger demand across the country. The move comes as part of a broader effort to ensure smoother travel during the peak vacation period, when rail traffic traditionally experiences a sharp increase.
According to an official statement from the Ministry of Railways, a total of 908 summer special trains have been approved for operation between April 15 and July 15, 2026. These services are expected to collectively run 18,262 trips, significantly boosting the capacity of the national transporter during one of the busiest travel seasons of the year.
Officials noted that out of the approved trains, 660 services have already been notified, accounting for 11,294 trips. This early notification allows passengers to plan their journeys in advance and secure reservations ahead of peak travel dates, particularly for routes that typically experience heavy demand during the summer months.

The Railways stated that the initiative aims to enhance passenger convenience and reduce overcrowding in regular trains by introducing additional services on high-demand routes. These special trains are expected to operate across multiple zones, covering key intercity and long-distance corridors frequently used by travelers during holidays and school vacations.
Authorities also highlighted that the scheduling of these trains has been carefully planned to optimize operational efficiency while maintaining safety and punctuality. The deployment of additional coaches and services reflects the Railways’ strategy to balance demand and supply, especially during periods of heightened mobility.
Passengers are advised to check official railway portals and reservation platforms for detailed information on routes, stoppages, and timings of these summer special trains. With a large number of services already open for booking, the Railways expects improved travel experiences and better crowd management throughout the summer travel season.
