India-US Trade Agreement Expands Market Access For Farmers, Says Piyush Goyal
Commerce minister says India-US trade pact will boost farm exports, MSMEs and jobs through improved market access.
India’s newly announced trade deal with the United States has the potential to unlock significant opportunities for Indian farmers, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said, describing the agreement as a major step forward for the country’s agricultural and export sectors. According to the minister, the pact is designed to improve market access for Indian produce while safeguarding domestic interests.
Speaking on the agreement, Goyal said the trade deal would help Indian farmers integrate more effectively with global supply chains, particularly in the US market, which remains one of the world’s largest importers of agricultural products. He noted that reduced trade barriers and improved cooperation could enable farmers to secure better prices for their produce and expand export volumes over time.
The minister also underlined that the benefits of the agreement would extend beyond agriculture to include micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), entrepreneurs and skilled workers. By enhancing trade flows and encouraging value-added exports, the deal is expected to support job creation and strengthen rural and semi-urban economies that depend heavily on farm-linked industries.

Goyal stressed that the government had approached the negotiations with a clear focus on national interest, ensuring that sensitive sectors were protected. He said the agreement aligns with India’s broader strategy of promoting “Make in India” and boosting exports while maintaining policy space to support farmers and domestic producers.
India and the US have been working to deepen their economic engagement amid global supply chain shifts and evolving trade dynamics. The latest deal is being seen as part of a broader effort to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries, which already share a growing partnership in technology, defence and services.
While detailed sector-wise provisions are expected to emerge in due course, the government has projected the agreement as a long-term opportunity to enhance India’s export competitiveness. Officials have indicated that sustained engagement and careful implementation will be key to ensuring that farmers and other stakeholders realise the full benefits of the trade arrangement.
