India-US Interim Trade Deal Set for April Rollout: Piyush Goyal
India and the US are likely to sign an interim trade agreement in March, with implementation expected in April.
India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has indicated that an interim trade agreement between India and the United States is likely to be signed in March and operationalised in April. The announcement signals progress in bilateral economic cooperation and follows the recent finalisation of a framework for the agreement by both nations.
According to official sources, a three-day meeting between Indian and American officials is scheduled to begin in the United States on February 23 to finalise the legal text of the interim deal. The agreement is expected to address tariff rationalisation, market access, and trade facilitation measures aimed at boosting two-way commerce.
Earlier this month, both countries issued a joint statement confirming that the framework for the interim trade pact had been finalised. The development reflects growing economic engagement between the two strategic partners, with trade volumes steadily increasing over the past few years.

In addition to the US agreement, Goyal stated that India’s Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with the United Kingdom and Oman are also expected to be implemented in April. These agreements aim to enhance export opportunities, reduce trade barriers, and strengthen investment flows.
Furthermore, the minister noted that India’s trade pact with New Zealand is likely to come into effect in September. Collectively, these agreements underscore India’s broader strategy to expand its global trade footprint and deepen economic ties with key international partners.
