India Secures LPG Supply as Vessel Braves Hormuz Amid Conflict
LPG shipment reaches India safely via Hormuz amid conflict.
An India-flagged vessel carrying 15,400 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has successfully reached India after crossing the strategically sensitive Strait of Hormuz, officials said on Thursday. The vessel docked at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority in Navi Mumbai, marking a significant development amid ongoing tensions in West Asia.
The port authority confirmed that the LPG carrier, named Green Asha, safely navigated the crucial maritime route despite the conflict involving Iran, United States, and Israel. The vessel has moored at the liquid berth operated jointly by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Indian Oil Corporation Limited.
According to JNPA, this is the first LPG vessel to arrive at the port since the escalation of hostilities in the region. Authorities described the arrival as a notable milestone, emphasizing that the ship, its cargo, and all crew members remained safe throughout the journey. The successful transit underscores the resilience of maritime operations even under complex geopolitical conditions.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy corridors, through which a significant portion of global oil and gas supplies pass. Recent instability in the region had raised concerns about potential disruptions to energy shipments, impacting global fuel prices and supply chains.
Officials highlighted that the arrival of the LPG consignment ensures continuity in India’s energy supply, particularly for domestic consumption. The Jawaharlal Nehru Port, also known as Nhava Sheva, plays a vital role in handling both containerized and liquid cargo, making it a key hub in the country’s logistics and energy infrastructure.
The development reflects India’s ability to maintain essential imports despite geopolitical uncertainties. Authorities noted that continued coordination between maritime agencies and energy companies will be crucial to safeguarding supply routes and ensuring uninterrupted availability of critical resources like LPG.
