India Reviewing US Proposal To Join Trump’s Board Of Peace

India signals a cautious response after receiving a US invitation to join Donald Trump’s proposed Board of Peace.

India said on Friday it is reviewing an invitation from the United States to join U.S. President Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace”, a newly proposed international body aimed initially at supporting a peace process and governance framework for the Gaza Strip. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that New Delhi has received formal communication from Washington but has not yet decided whether it will take up the offer.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told reporters in New Delhi that the government is “currently considering this proposal” and assessing its implications before making any commitment. He reiterated India’s longstanding support for efforts that promote peace, stability and dialogue in West Asia, but stopped short of confirming participation in the first planned meeting of the Board, scheduled for Feb. 19.

The Board of Peace is part of a broader Gaza peace initiative unveiled by President Trump in recent weeks, linked to a 20-point proposal aimed at stabilising the region following years of conflict. The board is envisioned as a mechanism to help oversee transitional governance, coordinate reconstruction and mobilise international resources — functions traditionally associated with the United Nations and other multilateral institutions.

Washington has invited numerous countries to join the board, with several Middle Eastern and Muslim-majority states signalling acceptance and other nations still weighing their positions. The body’s proposed executive structure features senior figures from across global institutions and governments, with the United States serving as chairman.

India’s measured response reflects broader diplomatic calculations. New Delhi maintains deep strategic ties with both Israel and countries in the Arab world, and it has emphasised balanced engagement in efforts to resolve conflicts in the Middle East. Officials have said that any decision regarding participation would be guided by national interests and India’s established foreign policy principles.

Analysts view India’s cautious review as aligned with its preference for multilateral action under established international frameworks. While the invitation underscores the country’s perceived global role, New Delhi appears intent on fully assessing the Board of Peace’s mandate, structure and potential implications before formally joining an initiative that has drawn mixed reactions internationally.
