Honor to Start Making Smartphones in India by November

PSAV Global to begin local production, aiming for 1% market share and ₹2,500 crore revenue.

Chinese smartphone brand Honor is poised to make a significant re-entry into the Indian market, with its brand partner, PSAV Global, announcing plans to commence production of Honor smartphones in India by November 2025. This move, aligned with India’s push for technological self-sufficiency, aims to capture a 1% market share in its first year, translating to approximately Rs 2,500 crore in revenue, according to a top company official.

PSAV Global Co-founder and CEO CP Khandelwal revealed to PTI that the company is in advanced discussions with electronic manufacturing services firms to initiate complete knocked-down (CKD) manufacturing. “After CKD manufacturing begins, our first-year target is to achieve approximately 1 per cent market share, which translates to around Rs 2,500 crore in revenue. This target will be achieved within the first year of manufacturing operations, from November 2025 to November 2026,” Khandelwal stated.

The initiative follows Honor’s global resurgence, as highlighted in a Counterpoint Research report for Q1 2025, which noted Honor among the fastest-growing smartphone brands, competing fiercely with top players. While Huawei dominated as China’s largest original equipment manufacturer (OEM), Honor and Motorola demonstrated strong growth in multiple markets. PSAV Global, previously associated with Huawei, now serves as the official brand partner for HonorTech in India, leveraging its extensive distribution network of over 5,000 retailers across more than 100 cities.

Despite earlier setbacks, including delays in Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) clearances and management changes at Honor’s headquarters, PSAV Global has secured approvals for four smartphone models. The company recently launched the Honor X9c and Honor X7c, with the Honor V3 and Honor Magic 7 Pro slated for release soon. Khandelwal emphasized that local manufacturing will enable Honor to align its Indian product launches with global timelines, ensuring Indian consumers access the brand’s latest innovations simultaneously with international markets.

Honor’s re-entry, backed by a Rs 1,000 crore investment from HonorTech, is led by former Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth, who aims to position India as a global excellence hub for the brand. The partnership with PSAV Global will handle critical operations such as importing devices, managing distribution channels, and providing marketing and warranty services, allowing HonorTech to focus on innovation and strategy. This strategic collaboration aligns with the Indian government’s “Make in India” initiative, promising to bolster local manufacturing and create opportunities for a skilled workforce.

As Honor prepares to roll out its locally produced smartphones, the brand is set to challenge industry leaders like Samsung and Apple, particularly in the foldable smartphone segment, by offering high-end features at competitive prices. With a focus on hardware and software innovation, Honor aims to carve out a niche in India’s competitive smartphone market, signaling a transformative phase for both the brand and its consumers.
