Honda Commits Rs 1,500 Crore to Rajasthan Plant in Major Manufacturing Push

Honda plans a third production line at Tapukara focused on commuter two-wheelers.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has announced a major expansion of its two-wheeler production capacity at its Tapukara plant in Rajasthan’s Alwar district. The company plans to install a third production line at the facility, which will increase its total annual manufacturing capacity to approximately 2.01 million units. The move is aimed at strengthening HMSI’s ability to meet rising demand in India’s commuter motorcycle and scooter segments.

The expansion will add around 670,000 units per year and is expected to become operational by 2028. The new production line will be designed as a flexible setup capable of manufacturing both 125cc and 160cc scooters and light motorcycles. This strategic focus aligns with growing consumer demand for efficient and practical two-wheelers in the commuter category, which continues to dominate the Indian market.

To support the expansion, HMSI will invest nearly ₹1,500 crore and acquire approximately 73,700 square metres of additional land. The investment is expected to not only enhance the company’s manufacturing footprint but also contribute to regional economic development. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma highlighted that the project would boost the state’s manufacturing ecosystem, generate employment, and reinforce its position as an emerging industrial hub.
