Himachal Government Promises Support to Investors, Boost for Local Communities and Industries

Himachal CM Sukhu urges investments in tourism, IT, and green industries; heliports and bulk drug park planned.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday evening called on industry leaders to invest in Himachal Pradesh’s tourism, food processing, and Information Technology sectors, highlighting the state’s potential for sustainable economic growth. Speaking at the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) Himachal Pradesh Annual Conference on the theme “Building a Future-Ready Himachal Pradesh for a Better Tomorrow: Harnessing Local Strengths for Global Competitiveness,” Sukhu emphasised the promotion of green industries in line with the state’s unique geographical and environmental conditions.

The Chief Minister announced that the state government plans to invest Rs 3,000 crore in tourism development and is actively encouraging investment in the hospitality sector. He highlighted initiatives such as the construction of heliports at district headquarters and key tourist sites, the introduction of heli-taxi services, and the ongoing expansion of the Kangra airport to boost connectivity.

Sukhu assured industrialists that the government would provide full support and necessary facilities, with no harassment in operations. A Bulk Drug Park is being developed at Haroli in Una district, offering incentives to investors. He also stressed improvements in the single-window clearance system to ensure that all approvals and permits are provided efficiently through the Industries Department.

Highlighting infrastructure development, Sukhu noted that most industries are located near state borders, and the government is focusing on improving connectivity and utilities in these areas. Projects include underground utility ducts in Baddi, similar to those in Shimla, and measures to address power load issues. The state is also co-funding railway connectivity to Baddi, including land acquisition expenses, which will benefit industries linked to BBMB operations.

The Chief Minister described Himachal Pradesh as the “lungs of North India” and a vital “water bowl,” asserting that the state has been deprived of its rightful share of financial assistance under Article 275(1) of the Constitution. He noted that the previous Revenue Deficit Grants (RDG) had been discontinued and said the government is actively working to restore these funds.

Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan and CII dignitaries, including Director Industries Dr. Yunus, Northern Region Chairperson Anjali Singh, Deepan Garg, Puneet Kaura, and Sanjay Suri, were present at the event. Chauhan highlighted the state’s resilience in facing natural disasters and political challenges, while noting that despite the Centre’s announcements, disaster-affected families in Himachal Pradesh are still awaiting Rs 1,500 crore in financial assistance.
