Handcrafted Over A Year By Master Artisan, Nita Ambani's Saree Tells A Heritage Story

Master artisan's year-long saree elevates Lucknow's Chikankari heritage at Reliance AGM.

Nita Ambani once again highlighted India's rich textile heritage at the Reliance Annual General Meeting by wearing a hand-embroidered Chikankari saree that paid tribute to the traditional craftsmanship of Lucknow. The elegant ensemble, created under the Swadesh initiative, reflected a blend of timeless artistry and understated luxury, drawing attention for its intricate detailing and cultural significance.

The Reliance Foundation chairperson chose an antique mauve chiffon saree adorned with delicate floral jaal patterns spread across the sheer fabric. The pallu featured elaborate Chikankari embroidery, showcasing the intricate handwork that has made Lucknow's centuries-old textile tradition renowned across the country. The soft mauve shade further enhanced the elegance of the handcrafted drape.

What made the outfit particularly remarkable was the effort behind its creation. The saree was handcrafted over the course of a year by master artisan Anjani Kashyap of Lucknow. The design incorporated the traditional Do Taar Chikankari style along with specialised techniques such as Jaali, Murri, Ghaas Patti and Balda work, each requiring exceptional precision and skilled craftsmanship.

Keeping the focus on the saree, Nita Ambani opted for minimal yet sophisticated accessories, pairing the ensemble with diamond earrings, a statement ring, a bracelet and a classic wristwatch. The understated styling complemented the handcrafted textile without overshadowing its intricate embroidery and artisanal details.

The appearance served as another celebration of Indian handloom traditions and local artisans, reinforcing the growing emphasis on preserving heritage crafts through contemporary fashion. By choosing a handcrafted Chikankari saree for a prominent corporate event, Nita Ambani brought national attention to Lucknow's celebrated embroidery tradition and the craftsmanship that continues to keep the art form alive.
